Overcoming PTSD through artistic expression

Combat Art SD

Combat Art SD has its first exhibition of paintings done by Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) combat veterans this Saturday, November 3rd, 3-9 PM at Space 4 Art Gallery, 325 15th Street San Diego, CA 92101 (between “J” and “K”, in downtown San Diego). The event is open to the public.  There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door.

UC San Diego Extension instructor Elizabeth Washburn has been coordinating the project, and donated several of her pieces and a commissioned portrait sitting to the silent auction. In addition to a number of murals, paintings and masks created by local talented veterans, there will be an outdoor stage with music, an inside DJ, and kid-friendly arts and crafts.

The event showcases a number of pieces of combat art and is a fundraiser for the Combat Art Program SD (CAPSD). CAPSD offers Expressive Arts Classes for all combat veterans and currently provides classes at OASIS, and soon Balboa Naval Hospital.
